Put your leather shoes back in business by fixing them with shoe glue.

Which shoe glue is right for you?

Even the most expensive shoes break sometimes. The straps fall off and the soles come away from the leather, leaving them impossible to wear, but there’s no reason to throw them in the bin. With shoe glue you can repair all kinds of shoes without having to go to the shoe repair shop.

To repair shoes, you need a strong, flexible glue that can bond the materials that make up your shoe. For this job, look no further than Loctite’s Super Glue Liquid. This fast-acting super glue can bond many different types of materials including porcelain, china, metal, wood, plastic, and, most importantly, leather and rubber too. It comes with a range of applicators including a Brush On applicator, which is perfect for shoe repairs.

How to fix the soles of your shoes with shoe sole glue

With Loctite’s Super Glue Liquid – the best glue for shoe soles – there’s no need to go to the shoe repair shop to get your broken shoes fixed.

The first thing you need to do is ensure that the sole and the leather parts of your shoe fit together properly. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to get out the shoe glue!

  1. Clean both surfaces thoroughly with a damp cloth. Shoes get dusty and dirty, so just make sure that there’s no dirt, grit, sand or grease on either surface.
  2. Get ready to glue. First, remove the cap. Then grip the bottle like a pen and squeeze it gently to dispense the glue onto the Brush On applicator. Use the applicator to apply a thin, even layer of the liquid super glue to one of the surfaces.
  3. Press both surfaces together and hold. Don’t worry if any excess glue drips out; you can deal with that once it’s dry.
  4. Replace the lid on the glue. Store it upright in a cool dry place.
  5. Leave your shoes to dry for at least 1-2 hours. For best results leave them overnight before wearing them again.
  6. Remove any excess glue. You can use a tissue dipped in acetone nail varnish remover or Loctite’s Glue Remover

How to re-heel your shoe using shoe glue

Sometimes the heels on our shoes come off completely or start to flap. For this, you need extra strong glue like Loctite’s 60 Second All-Purpose Glue. This glue reaches maximum strength very quickly, so it’s perfect for fixing shoes that you wear all the time.

To avoid your skin coming into contact with the glue, we recommend wearing nitrile gloves whilst making the repairs.

  1. Make sure that the two surfaces fit together properly. Then clean them thoroughly with a damp cloth.
  2. Carefully apply a generous amount of the shoe glue.
  3. Press the heel and the sole together. You might want to use a clamp or elastic bands to hold them in place.
  4. Replace the cap on the glue tube. Store the glue in a cool dry place.
  5. Wait for the glue to dry.  Loctite’s 60 Second All-Purpose Glue sets in 60 seconds, but we recommend leaving it overnight for the best results.
  6. Remove any excess glue. You can use a tissue dipped in acetone nail varnish remover or Loctite’s Glue Remover.
